Morgan Freeman is using his voice for something other than epically narrating movies– he’s speaking out against marijuana prohibition. The long time marijuana legalization advocate recently spoke about marijuana during an interview with Newsweek.
Freeman explained his views on prohibition during the interview, stating, “It’s just the stupidest law ever, given history. You don’t stop people from doing what they want to do, so forget about making it unlawful. You’re just making criminals out of people who aren’t engaged in criminal activity. And we’re spending zillions of dollars trying to fight a war we can’t even win! We could make zillions, just legalize it and tax it like we do liquor. It’s stupid!”
The 75 year old actor has been known to stir up controversy in the past when sharing his opinions on politics and religion. Freeman conducted the interview with Newsweek as a part of the press tour for “The Dark Knight Rises,” which comes out in theaters this weekend.

So true its ridiculous. I will pay 55 an eighth maybe 60 an eighth if it is legalized and have access to super dank strains like CA or CO. Right now i pay 50 an eighth for some of the best dank in my city I know there is better quality and will pay for it.

So much money to be made in this country if it was legalized and taxed we could be out of this debt crisis in 10 years max probably.

Earn money taxing it, save money not jailing "criminals" and enforcing another nonsensical law.

You make all the sense in the world, Kenobi. And your insights are exactly why legalization isn't going to happen for a long time. With the privatization of prisons, legalizing marijuana would come close to emptying the prisons. And that will piss off the Corporations that own and run them. We really need to work on cleaning and "sterilizing" the U.S. Congress and set term limits for politicians. And now I have to fire up my bong!!!! Peace!

I just don't understand how many facts need to be presented. Do we need to draw out a business model? What is this hold up when all logic leads toward legalization? How many lives need to be ruined so the Government can let go of it's pride and say "We were wrong." Or am I looking at this the wrong way?

Everyone is hurting for jobs imagine how many jobs legalization will make! Farmers, coffee shops/pot clubs, scientists etc. It would take a few years but if we started now we could kick the oil addiction we have that would end many wars. There is more help that industrial hemp and marijuana can provide we are so stupid to deprive ourselves of it.
