On Monday, employees at a Seattle Kmart received a shipment they weren’t expecting. During their noontime shipment, the store became the recipient of a 10 pound package of marijuana.
The marijuana was packed in trash bags, then covered with packing peanuts in a box. Newspapers doused in cleaning fluid were also included in the box to mask the smell.
After discovering that the package was not full of stock for the store, a Kmart employee called 911 to report the package.
Seattle PD spokesman Jonah Spagenthal-Lee told the press, “Delivery information on the package indicates it was originally shipped from Los Angeles to a Philadelphia address, but never made it to its intended destination in Philly. Whoever sent the package listed the address of the Seattle Kmart on the return label, for some reason.”
The marijuana was seized from the Kmart by Seattle police, who placed it in evidence. The department’s narcotics unit will now continue the investigation.
Seattle Police Detective Renee Witt commended the Kmart employee for how they handled the situation. “That’s an honest employee,” she said.
