On Tuesday, a Texas state trooper pulled over a tanker on a routine traffic stop and discovered more than he bargained for. The trooper initially pulled over the truck for a routine inspection of the vehicle.
After looking more closely at the tanker rig, the trooper discovered that the tanker was filled with packages of marijuana.
Hundreds of bundles of marijuana were removed from the tanker, and weighed in at 3.9 tons. Texas officers estimate the marijuana is worth approximately $3.4 million.
The driver of the vehicle, Paul Anthony Simmons, 45, was arrested for possession of marijuana. A $1 million bail was posted.
A Texas Department of Public Safety spokesman describe the event as a “big, significant seizure.”
