Amtrak Passenger Tries to Travel with 7 Pounds of Marijuana

 by lucy

On Tuesday, a man was arrested at the La Crosse, Wi. Amtrak train station with over 7 pounds of marijuana in his possession.

La Crosse authorities were first alerted when Amtrak police in Portland, Or. noticed a 25 year old man was acting suspicious on the train.

When the train arrived at his stop in La Crosse, a police narcotics dog found 7.4 pounds of marijuana in vacuum sealed bags in the man’s suitcases.  Police estimate the marijuana from Oregon is worth approximately $30,000.

The man is being held in La Crosse County jail without bond.  When he appears today in court, he will face charges of possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

This happened to a friend of mine, most likely he was not acting suspicious, but he bought a 1 way train ticket with cash in the last few weeks before his departure. This is the flag they are looking for, and are actually violating peoples rights. The exact same situation happened to my friend but with 20lbs and when they asked if they could search his bags..he said "not without a warrant". The Case went to trial in colorado and he was found not guilty. Just be very careful when buying your ticket. Authorities do illegally profile and search without warrants based on that.

Traveled Amtrak a few times and it sucked. Always bought my ticket cash at the station half hour before departure. I'd take the line from Seattle to Minneapolis without any problems having a small amount of medicine, however it was incredibly slow. Once we got backed up due to the ND flooding and turned into a 3 day train ride having to pull over constantly for government trains.(Government owns over 90% of the tracks Amtrak uses) Only fly or drive now. Spoke to a homeland security dude for a few hours once on my way back and he said that was the only Amtrak line that wouldn't use drug dogs at any stop, but they did have officials come on a few times looking for illegal aliens. Guess things have changed since then..

He should have just stopped in Montana with all that weight on his way to the Midwest :P
And as far as the value of 7.4 lbs of what is mostly likely oregon outdoor can be no more than 14-15K… 16K tops. They honestly think it's worth $4,000/lb? Sheesh…
