A Philadelphia man was arrested after he tried to pay his cab fare with a baggie of marijuana last Friday. According to police, 23-year-old Michael Medvec “tried to slip the cabbie a bag of marijuana to pay for the fare” after admitting to not having cash on him.
On Friday, a cab driver double parked on the street, which led police to try to ticket him. The driver told police that he had a guy in the cab who would not pay his fare. The driver then let the man out to go into his apartment and get money for the fare. When the man came back, he still had no money, but offered the cab driver a bag of marijuana as compensation.
Medvec was arrested and charged with not paying his cab fare and possession of marijuana.
Police Captain Brian Korn expressed his sympathy for the cab driver explaining, “Poor cabbie, he’s still out the $8 fare, now he has to take time off of work to go to court because he will be subpoenaed as a witness. So here’s a guy who’s got a tough enough job as it is and now he’s out the fare and he’s going to lose a day’s of work or two for going to court.”
The case is scheduled for a status hearing on April 8th.
