There was a huge explosion on Saturday in a Miami home being used as a hydroponic grow site for marijuana. The explosion sent people inside the house running and wood and other debris flying through the air.
The roof of this home, which was used as a hydroponics lab for growing marijuana, lifted off the structure after an explosion.
The explosion was so strong that the entire roof lifted off the home then settled back into place, according to investigators. The tenants fled the scene in a car.
When police and fire officials arrived at the scene, they discovered that the home was illegally being used as a hydroponic grow site for marijuana.
A neighbor, Orlando Martinez, told reporters that, “When the wind shifts in a certain direction, you can definitely smell it. As the day went on it ended up being more of a marijuana smell and it was all over the place.”
On Sunday the house was deemed unsafe, and the Miami-Dade County’s building department has since facilitated the demolition of the home.
Investigators are still searching for the tenants who had been renting the home on SW 151st Place. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation. There were a variety of chemicals inside the home. That, coupled with the fact that the tenants were stealing electricity, is likely to have caused the blast, according to investigators.
