Officers from the US Coast Guard seized over 6,500 pounds of marijuana from a Jamaican fishing boat in the Caribbean on Tuesday. The marijuana was brought to Key West, Florida to be offloaded.
The Jamaican fishing boat, the Captain Richard, was found adrift without gas. They were 200 miles from the nearest port. When the Coast Guard arrived, they put the ship in tow and conducted a law enforcement boarding at the permission of the Jamaican government.
Once aboard, the Coast Guard’s boarding team discovered hundreds of packages plastic wrapped and taped shut.
The fishing boat’s crew and the marijuana were transferred to the Coast Guard’s boat. They were brought to Key West, Florida, the nearest port in the US.
The Coast Guard estimates that the wholesale value of the marijuana would have been $6.2 million.

@swmiller92 not to disagree with you but 1000×6,200 is 6.2 million. They said about 6500 pounds, so on average each pound would have sold for somewhere around 950. Fuck the US coastguard, whether or not they did estimate the value correctly. They have better things to do than waste out federal government's money on marijuana busts.
