US Senate candidate Michael Baumgartner and former Representative Tom Tancredo, both Republicans, have come forward to endorse marijuana legalization in Washington state and Colorado, respectively.
Baumgartner believes that Washington’s I-502, which would legalize marijuana for individuals over age 21, is a “thoughtful way forward.”
In an interview about the initiative, Baumgartner explained, “It checks a lot of boxes we want to see, in terms of children not being exposed, in terms of not increasing marijuana usage and not allowing it in public places.”
Tancredo, who served in the House of Representatives over the course of ten years, endorsed Colorado’s Amendment 64 this week because he does not believe that it should be the government’s concern whether or not people use marijuana.
A third legalization initiative will be on the general election ballot in Oregon.
