On Friday night, Czech President Vaclav Klaus signed legislation that allows marijuana to be used for medical purposes.
To start, the country will import medical marijuana from countries like The Netherlands and Israel, both of which already have established marijuana programs. This will allow Czech growers the opportunity to become licensed and begin growing their own marijuana.
Similar to many medical marijuana systems in the US, the Czech Republic’s program will allow patients to purchase marijuana if they receive a recommendation from their physician. The program differs from those in the US, however, because the marijuana will be available for sale in pharmacies.
Medical marijuana is more openly accepted in many European countries than it is in the United States.
