The Marijuana Policy Project, which has created (unwarranted) controversy with its billboard advertising in the past at a NASCAR event and in Oregon, has purchased a billboard near Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium, where the Denver Broncos play.
The NFL’s kickoff game will be held in Denver on Thursday, and the MPP is taking the opportunity to ask the NFL to discontinue punishment for players who use marijuana in a state where it is now legal. The billboard also alludes to the fact that marijuana is safer than alcohol.
The 48-foot wide billboard is in blue and orange– Broncos colors. It has the message, “Stop driving players to Drink. A safer choice is now legal (here).” Next to the message is a picture of a beer with a football leaning up against it.
The MPP is taking additional steps for change when it comes to NFL’s marijuana policies. There is currently a change.org petition asking NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to change the league’s policy on marijuana use. The NFL has banned marijuana, and failed drug tests can lead to a 4 game suspension.
