On Wednesday, the New Hampshire Senate is scheduled to vote on a bill which would decriminalize marijuana possession up to one half ounce, making a first offense punishable by a $250 fine.
However, a Senate committee is recommending that the Senate kill the bill. In addition, Governor John Lynch has vowed to veto the measure, should it be approved by Senate.
In addition to the $250 fine for first offenses, the measure would make second offense possession of up to one half ounce marijuana a $500 fine, and additional offenses would be considered misdemeanors which could incur a $1,000 fine and/or a year in jail.
Based on the Governor’s prior statements, it does not seem likely that this measure will be passed into law this year.
