Four men were arrested early Wednesday for allegedly breaking into Patients Healing Group medical marijuana collective in Santa Ana, CA.
Santa Ana Police went to the collective, located on West 17th Street, around 2:15 a.m. after the business owner’s security alarm alerted him to a break-in. An Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter with infrared technology was also sent out to the scene.
Infrared pictures show two suspects “hiding” on the roof of the building, as well as another individual who looked to be suck in a rooftop air vent opening.
When they discovered that they were surrounded by police, two of the suspects jumped to the rooftop next door to try to escape. One of the other suspects sat down on the roof and made a phone call and sent text messages. The three men, all teenagers, eventually surrendered themselves into police custody.
Another suspect, 18-year-old Gustavo Penaloza of Anaheim, is suspected of acting as a lookout for the other three suspects.
Since the burglary was interrupted, no marijuana or money was stolen from the property. However, the collective is now facing more problems, as they have been deemed to violate city code. The collective was told to cease operations in late 2011, but had remained open.
